We are an ancient Florentine family of artisans who, for four generations now, have been working by hand with leather, wood, and paper. Our grandparents and fathers have passed down to us knowledge and methods that, together with the love and passion for our work, allow us to create handcrafted objects that are always new.
In our historic workshop in Florence we have typographic tools for paper and cardboard, two-century-old presses for leather manufacturing, and saws, fret saws, lathes, and shellac as our allies for working and coloring wood.
Small and big secrets handed down over the decades and a long experience in art and decoration allow us to produce creations with a taste of the ancient and traditional unique in their kind, all to be discovered in our Typical Florentine Shop in the historic center of Florence.

The entire collection can be found in our Florence Store, the only point of sale, now famous for true Florentine handmade.
Against the romantic backdrop of the Baptistery and the Cathedral of Florence, this is where art comes to life. Every product is inspired by tradition, both in design and form, all small reproductions of Italian history. Each detail is crafted with love and wisdom, a unique piece to remember Florence and that smells of history.
Come and discover the entire production, and take home a piece of true Florentine craftsmanship instead of the usual souvenir.

In 1300 the "Ciompi" were the workers of the Lesser Guilds of Florence, such as wool workers, shoemakers, dyers, laborers, who, together with other more humble craftsmen, represented one of the lowest rungs of the social ladder of the time. The name was due to the hardest job of all, that of "ciompare", or rather "hammering" the leather to soften it. It is precisely from this that the saying "se non stai buono ti ciompo!" was born, which means "I'll hammer you, I'll hit you, I'll beat you up!"
Since they had no representation, the Ciompi were excluded from any political management of society. In 1378 they rose up in a popular revolt, the famous "Tumult of the Ciompi", one of the first uprisings for economic-political purposes in European history.
In Florence, a famous square was also dedicated to them, Piazza de' Ciompi, which for many decades until a few years ago was the site of the most famous flea markets in Tuscany.
On the road that leads from Santa Maria Novella station to the entrance of the beautiful Piazza del Duomo. Our shop is at the beginning of the pedestrian area, between the bookstore and the shoe store.

High-level Italian craftsmanship. They manually produce the products, unique and original, a mixture of tactile and visual pleasure, useful and frivolous objects, accessible luxury for all those who desire a handmade product that cannot be found elsewhere.

"The products designed by their family are incredibly elegant and classic!!! The wooden works are of high quality and in a retro style. Highly recommended to buy as a souvenir in Florence."

Artisans and Workshops
We are a family of artisans, and our work is to create objects with the charm of the past, using the same methods as traditional Tuscan restoration. Craftsmanship takes on a different and unique flavor when you give it that look of an object coming directly from ancient times, from the Middle Ages, or the Renaissance, or from the early 1800s between Romanticism and Symbolism. It is not vintage, it is antique, it is historical beauty. The souvenirs you will take home after a trip to Florence will not be the usual trinkets, but precious, elegant, beautiful objects to look at, which you will be happy to give as gifts and everyone will be happy to receive. Ours are characteristic objects, historical reproductions, typical Florentine and Italian souvenirs. Very special gifts, suitable for every special occasion, perfect for remembering Florence. When you are looking for the best shop for Typical Handicrafts, or for Historical and Characteristic Souvenirs, for unique and Original Handmade Gifts, or a strange and unmissable Artisan Workshop, come to L'Arte de' Ciompi in Florence, you will find us in the historic center, near the Duomo.
